Plans have been submitted to build 86 new homes on the site of a former resource centre.

Hive Homes plan to demolish the former Seedfield Resource Centre on Parkinson Street, Bury, to build the estate, which would be close to both Clarence park and Burrs Country park.

Documents submitted within the past week to the council state that 22 of the houses will be classed as affordable homes while the remainder will be sold on the open market.

A design and access statement said: “The site is presently developed and there are a number of buildings on site that compromise the Seedfield Centre, a multi-purpose council facility.

“The development will result in a well planned residential development of which will echo the vernacular of the surrounding area.

“It has been designed to function well and has considered the opportunities available for maintaining the character and quality of the area.

“It helps address the needs for local housing land ensuring they’re accessible, usable and easy to understand and will be visually attractive as a result of the mix of good architecture, urban design and landscaping.”

Seedfield Bowling Club, immediately to the east of the site, and the football pitches to the north will remain unaffected by the proposed development.

The plans say 63 of the houses would be three-bed and 23 four-bed.

Of the 22 "affordable homes" proposed, 11 three-bed houses for shared ownership would be "gifted" to the council in partial lieu of a capital receipt.

Five would be offered for affordable rent and another six would be part of the "Homes as First Homes" scheme to be sold directly by Hive Homes on a discounted in perpetuity basis.

Council planners will decide on the proposals at a date yet to be decided.
