An inquest has opened into the death of a young man who died at hospital last year.

Joshua Andrew Kerfoot was aged just 27 when he died at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury on October 18.

On Tuesday morning, Rochdale Coroner’s Court heard Mr Kerfoot lived on Garside Hey Road in Brandlesholme and was single and unemployed at the time of his death.

Senior police coroner’s officer Paul Lever said he had been unwell for a number of days after a night out and his mother Angela found him unresponsive on October 18.

He was taken to Fairfield General Hospital and was pronounced dead after several resuscitation attempts.

PCO Lever also said Mr Kerfoot had a history of drug and alcohol use and in February last year he was assaulted and received a head injury but that the incident does not appear to be related to his death.

Mr Kerfoot’s death was confirmed to be non-suspicious and is thought to be drug-related.

Assistant coroner Michael Salt confirmed that a full inquest will be held and set the date for April 13.
