We've rounded up a number of Bury cases heard by magistrates recently - read on to find out who's been in the dock.

Arson

A man was jailed after setting fire to a post box in Radcliffe.

Martin Peter Columbus McDonagh, 52, of St Johns Court, Radcliffe, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court that he had set fire to the post box belonging to Royal Mail on December 15 last year.

He was jailed for four months and ordered to pay a total of £300.

Insurance 

A man was fined after driving without insurance in Bury.

Kyle John Holmes, 30, of Maxwell Street, Bury, was found to have driven without insurance on Walmesley Road on April 26 last year.

This was proven by single justice procedure at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court,

Holmes was ordered to pay a total of £816.

Identity

A man was ordered to pay more than £1,500 after failing to give his name, address or show his driving licence to police,

Wajahat Ibrahim, 50, of Padiham Close, Bury, was found to have failed to produce his licence for examination by police after driving on Rochdale Road on April 27 last year.

The same day he also failed to give his name or address.

This was proven by single justice procedure at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.

Ibrahim was ordered to pay a total of £1,542.

Probation

A man was fined after missing probation appointments.

Brian Ratsakatika, 41, of Halstead Close, Radcliffe, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had failed to attend Bury Probation Office for appointments on September 6 and 12.

He had been ordered to attend the appointments as part of a suspended sentence handed down by the same court on December 9, 2020.

Ratsakatika was ordered to pay £40.

Speeding

A man was ordered to pay more than £300 after speeding in Bury.

Phillip Selby, 48, of Queens Way, Barnet, was found to have driven at 37mph on the A56 Bury New Road in Prestwich on March 29 last year.

This was above the speed limit of 30mph and proven by single justice procedure.

Selby was ordered to pay a total of £393.

Drug driving

A woman was fined after drug driving in Bury.

Chloe Sloan, 33 of Malton Avenue, Whitefield, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court that she had driven on Pilkington Way, Radcliffe on July 4 last year with Benzoylecgonine in her bloodstream over the legal limit.

She was ordered to pay a fine of £120 and banned from the roads for 12 months.

Cloned plates

A man was fined after driving without insurance and with cloned licence plates in Bury.

Matthew Egan, 32, of Stanier Street, Manchester, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court that he had driven a Renault Kangoo on Rainsough Road, Prestwich on September 12 last year.

The vehicle was on cloned plates and he was uninsured at the time.

Egan was fined a total of £130 and the court ordered that the cloned plates be destroyed.
