A pub in Bury has closed its doors temporarily as its owner waits for new landlords to take over.

The Sundial Pub on Walmersley Road shut on New Year's Day until further notice after its former landlords decided to leave.

The pub is owned by brewery chain Daniel Thwaites, which says it is unsure how long the pub will closed for but is working to find new tenants.

Writing on the pub’s Facebook page, former landlords Andrea Moss and Martin Peters announced they had taken the decision to leave "and start a new chapter".

The post said: “Hi all, we closed our doors on January 1. We have loved our time at The Sundial pub, Bury, but most of all the friends we have made.

“It’s a very sad time for Martin Peters and I. We’ve spoken to Thwaites and they are currently looking for new tenants, so hopefully the pub shouldn’t be closed for too long.

“We simply ran out of money and had to make the decision to leave and start a new chapter in our lives.

“We will still be very much a part of the Walmersley community as we will continue to operate our other business Tyres Assist and look forward to being customers at The Sundial.”

Director of pubs and brewing at Daniel Thwaites, Andrew Buchanan added: “Our tenants have recently advised us that they wish to leave the pub.

“We respect their decision and wish them all the best for the future.

“At present, we are unsure of how long it will take to find new operators for The Sundial, however, we are committed to ensuring the pub will remain at the heart of the local community.”
