A young boy from Whitefield has been left heartbroken after his Christmas present was stolen on Boxing Day.

Nathan Gago, 12, was delighted on Christmas Day after being given a bike, the only present he had asked for.

Just over 24 hours later, Nathan realised his new bike had gone missing and is still nowhere to be seen.

His mum Charlotte said Nathan was heartbroken and they have been combing though their CCTV footage since to find out what happened.

She said: “He was crying his eyes out, we both were to tell you the truth, it's not what you want to happen at Christmas, let alone at a Christmas in the cost of living crisis.

“He had wanted a bike so badly that it was the only thing he had asked for.

“Then, on Boxing Day, I asked him to move it out of the way for a while so I could put some washing in because it really was a big bike, and it was getting in our way.”

Charlotte said on their drive is a caravan which is being repaired due to water damage and a gazebo is currently covering the caravan to protect it from the weather.

She added that Nathan then hid his bike there, a place he thought was out of view to anyone passing by.

Charlotte said: “We live on a cul de sac so it isn't often that we have people walking near our house unless they live here so this is unusual for us and I’m guessing someone came snooping around.

“I'm still in the middle of looking through the CCTV but there's so much footage and it’s had to find the time to go through it when you're looking after four children during the Christmas holidays.”

After appealing for witnesses via Facebook, a generous commenter approached Charlotte to offer Nathan one of her bikes.

She said: “We're hopefully going to go and collect it this weekend and we are so grateful but it isn't the same.

“We had that bike hidden for over two months and Nathan had been so excited.

"It is just upsetting that we had it for so long and Nathan barely got the chance to use it.”

Charlotte is still searching through her CCTV to discover what happened.

She has said she will take any proof or footage of the potential theft to the police but in the meantime, has asked for parents or locals to keep an eye out for Nathan's new bike.
