Police have been cracking down on crime at Bury Interchange as part of an operation to help keep passengers safe.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Transport Unit officers have been working with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to reduce crime and social behaviour at the station.
An arrest was made within half an hour of the operation being launched.
A spokesperson for GMP Bury North said: “GMP Transport Unit are conducting an operation in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester at Bury Interchange.
“Within 30 minutes of being here a male has already been arrested for breach of bail offences as he had conditions not to be in the Bury district.
“We are utilising a weapons arch which works as a metal detectors helping officers to identify any passengers who are carrying weapons.
“These operations help us to deter crime and anti-social behaviour and our commitment to keep the public safe while using public transport.”
A TfGM spokesperson added: “Keeping our passengers and staff safe is our priority.
“A GM Travel Safe Specialist Operation is taking place this afternoon (Wednesday) in the Bury area with support from the GM Transport Unit and MCR Metrolink to deter anti-social behaviour and crime on Greater Manchester’s transport network.”
