A café has reopened today after a water pipe burst saw it close on Thursday this week.

The Burrs Café, The Lamppost Cafe in Bury closed its doors after water gushed through the venue on Thursday, December 15.

With a frozen boiler and a burst pipe, the café had no water and unable to open to customers.

Nicola Gregson and partner Mark Wellman-Riggs were at the café when they found the leak and had to evacuate customers from the building.

The burst pipe left around two inches of water in the room and customers had to be evacuated from the café.

But now, the duo revealed on Facebook that they could partly reopen as an electrician worked to restore power.

A statement read: “At last some good new! We are partly back open from tomorrow (9am Saturday) in time for the weekend!

“The cafe is dry and toasty warm (the fire is lit & has been roaring around the clock to dry / thaw everything).

“Please do come down and say hello, join us for a coffee or hot chocolate and we have mulled wine and a full bar available too. Lots of cake, always time for cake.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have the kitchen infrastructure - we are still working behind the scenes with our tradesmen, but by Sunday, we hope to be able to offer some hot food from the kitchen.”

Nicola was in the kitchen when water began pooling under the fridge, but at the time she simply thought it was just the fridge.

Nicola said previously: “If it had happened three hours later or on a day we are closed, the place would have been devastated.

“The volume of water coming down could have collapsed the ceiling and the floors would have gone.”

All functions and events at the venue were cancelled but the couple can at least partially open this weekend.

Despite having to close their doors, Nicola and Mark believe that the damage isn't too bad after receiving the thumbs up from an electrician.

The team are waiting on a final damage assessment but have been working through the night using humidifiers and heaters to try and help dry the venue.
