LIGHTOPIA MANCHESTER

Heaton Park

Returning for its fourth year, Lightopia has become a familiar sight in Heaton Park at Christmas.

The official launch of Lightopia Manchester took place on Thursday with vibrant light installations ready to greet visitors on festive outings.

This year the display is focussed on the circle of life and new beginnings, plus festive trail, A Christmas Story.

Bury Times:

From animals and nature, to the delightful lakeside water show projection complete with music you’ll no doubt recognise from Home Alone, there’s plenty to see as you wander around the park.

The popular light-up tunnel is back where you can snap a colourful selfie with your pals.

Ian Xiang, creative director of Lightopia, believes this year’s festival is ‘our best yet’. But in previous years, interactive displays formed part of the trail and I think it would be great to see some of those back next year. Such as last year’s Earth Flower, which saw visitors play one of 10 musical drums to light the display, or the light-up swings of pre-Covid Lightopia.

There’s food and drink on offer but, like everything these days, not particularly cheap with a mulled wine costing £5.95. There are fairground rides dotted around the place costing £3 a time compared to last year’s £2.50.

But organisers have said some cheaper entry tickets are available on selected weekdays throughout November and December, to help with rising living costs.

Lightopia is open until Monday, January 2. The event is closed on Christmas Day. Opening times are between 5pm to 10pm, and last entry is 8.30pm.

Bury Times:

Advance tickets are priced at £17.50 for adults off-peak and £22.50 at peak times or days, from £11 for children off-peak and £14.50 peak, and £49 for families of two adults and two children off-peak and £69 peak. Children under three can go free at all times. Essential carers of disabled visitors can attend for free, the disabled visitor pays the normal admission fee.
