This photo from the archives offers us a glimpse of Bury town centre as it was more than 50 years ago.
It shows the area around Market Place in 1970. The town’s parish church - the Church of St Mary the Virgin - dominates the photo but on the left was a branch of Lloyds Bank and the National Westminster Bank, as it was then, had a branch on the right behind the traffic light.
The photographer was stood on the corner of Silver Street.
