A tram believed to be heading for Bury has derailed near St Peter’s Square and has changed a number of services across the Metrolink network.
Transport for Greater Manchester have confirmed that Bury services are currently operating to Victoria.
Metrolink said in a tweet: “Due to a failed tram in the city centre, services will operate:
• Rochdale - Exchange Square
• Bury – Victoria
• Manchester Airport – Firswood
• East Didsbury - Cornbrook
• Altrincham – Deansgate
• Trafford Park – Wharfside
Metrolink also added: “The incident will impact services across the network into the early evening and we are sorry for any disruption to people’s journeys.
“Engineers are working to re-rail the tram as quickly as possible.”
A communter caught up in the chaos said: "It's the second time in two days that we have had a problem with trams and it's not good enough.
"We are constantly hearing things about helping the environment by using public transportation but the public transport available is laughable.
"It's a constant toss up of what will the issue of the week be, train strike, metro line fault or the classic no buses.
"After a 10 hour shift, I just want to get home.
"I'll be driving to work in the future."
