Bury footballing star Kieran Trippier has been named in England's World Cup squad.
The Newcastle right-back, who has been outstanding for his club since signing from Athletico Madrid in January, will jet out to Qatar as part of the 26-man squad.
Trippier, 32, who grew up in Summerseat, has become a favourite with manager Gareth Southgate in recent years and has pulled on a Three Lions jersey 37 times.
He showed his class in the last World Cup in Russia, scoring a free kick to put England 1-0 against Croatia in the semi-final before the Croatians came back to win 2-1 in extra time.
France won that tournament after beating Croatia 4-2 in the final.
Last year, the former Holcombe Brook Primary School and Woodhey High School student, was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Bury by council leader, Cllr Eamonn O’Brien.
The recognition came after his performance at the Euros, in which England made it to the final at Wembley but were beaten on penalties by Italy.
Cllr O'Brien said of Trippier: “No other Bury lad has reached the level he has for his country's team. This is worthy of our highest level of recognition.
"That is why I am pleased that we will be awarding Kieran the Freedom of the Borough of Bury.
"We hope that this recognition will be a sign not only of his outstanding personal achievement, but the role he has played as part of a team that has inspired a nation during such a difficult time."
After the squad was announced today, Thursday, England captain Harry Kane shared his excitement ahead of the big kick-off.
The wait is over.
