A woman had to be cut out of a car after a crash in Prestwich this morning, Wednesday, which left one of the vehicles on its side.

The two-car collision happened at the junction of Scholes Road and Ostrich Lane in Prestwich just after 8.30am.

A woman was cut out from one of the cars and assessed by fire service trauma technicians before being taken to hospital by the ambulance service. 

Two fire engines from Whitefield and Broughton fire stations and a technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne attended the incident and were at the scene for around an hour.

A section of the road was closed as emergency services carried out their work.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson said: “Just after 8.30am this morning (Wednesday), two fire engines from Whitefield and Broughton fire stations and a technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne attended a road traffic collision involving two cars at the junction of Scholes Road and Ostrich Lane in Prestwich.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to rescue one woman from a vehicle and made the scene safe.

“The woman was assessed on scene by fire service trauma technicians and handed over to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“Crews were in attendance for around an hour.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: "Officers were called to reports of a person trapped in a car following a vehicle accident on Ostrich Lane in Prestwich at 8.32am this morning, Wednesday.

"A car had collided with a stationary vehicle and landed on its side.

"The driver was freed and treated for minor injuries.

"The vehicle was recovered at 10.20am and the road fully opened."

A spokesperson for Northwest Ambulance Service said: "We had a call at 8.33am for a road traffic collision, we sent an ambulance and a car and one patient was taken to North Manchester Hospital."
