A car park at a Bury beauty spot is set to be resurfaced after complaints that it had fallen into disrepair.
Work is set to take place at the Wheel car park at Burrs Country Park today, Thursday, and not just the "usual temporary repairs" after a number of potholes were reported by community campaigner Andrew Luxton.
The maintenance is due to be completed on Monday as part of the council's commitment to "invest" in borough parks and to "improve the facilities at Burrs".
In a Facebook post, Mr Luxton, who plans to stand for the Conservative Party in Elton at the local elections next year, said: “After I reported a number of potholes to Elton Cllr Jack Rydeheard, he took the case to the council.
“We've secured a full resurfacing of the car park.
“Prep work will be done in the meantime, including replacing some of the kerbs, cutting out some areas, and bringing the base course of the tarmac up to the correct level.
“Some overhanging trees have also been removed.
“I love the Burrs, and so does my Cavapoo Teddy - so it's great to see improvements to park provisions!”
With the resurfacing work, it is hoped that the car park will benefit in the long term and be more resilient.
Cllr Rydeheard said: “The resurfacing of the Wheel car park is very welcome news and I am happy to see this come to fruition.
"The car park is used by so many visitors to the park, and it's sad that it has been allowed to fall into such disrepair.
“I want to thank Andrew Luxton for bringing this to my attention and pushing for this to be a full resurfacing and not just the usual temporary repairs."
Cllr Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations at the council, said: “Despite a decade of austerity, we have continued to invest in our parks, and this is the latest example of how we are improving the facilities at Burrs.
"We are proud to have 12 parks across Bury that have been awarded the Green Flag, providing welcoming and attractive places for visitors and communities.”
Mr Luxton and Cllr Rydeheard have been campaigning to fix potholes in the Elton ward throughout the year with one of their campaigns, pothole golf.
In the campaign, filmed and posted in late April, the "golfers" took suggestions on the worst nine potholes in the ward.
Following this, they played a full nine rounds of golf with them with the British flag as the pin.
