An arrest has been made after a group of youths were seen running around Whitefield with a baseball bat.

They were spotted around Thatch Leach Lane causing problems but were stopped by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Special officers.

GMP Specials are voluntary officers that give up their time to help the force.

One person was arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon in public.

It is not known what day or time the incident happened but it was reported by police in the early hours of today, Tuesday.

Sharing a picture with police uniform and a basedball bat on social media, a GMP Bury South spokesperson said: “Whitefield - when a group of teenagers run around Thatch Leach Lane causing disruption with one waving a baseball bat but can't outrun our special officers.

“There's only one result - a home run to a police custody cell!

“One arrested for possession of weapon in public.”
