Organisers of one of Bury’s biggest community bonfires are urging residents to "remember, remember" to secure their tickets after last year’s sell-out success.

Thousands of people descended on Woodbank Cricket Club in 2021 and the club’s team of volunteers are hoping this year’s bonfire will be its biggest and best yet.

Ticket prices have been frozen for 2022 in recognition of the cost-of-living crisis, with the Brandlesholme club hoping as many people as possible will come together on Saturday, November 5 to mark Guy Fawkes Night.

Despite Manchester City Council recently announcing the cancellation of its own bonfires, work is still ongoing at Woodbank to prepare for one of the biggest events in the Stafford Street venue’s calendar.

Club chairman Martyn Ward said everyone at the club was keen to welcome the community through the gates.

He said: “The Woodbank bonfire has become a highlight of the year for many and we’re looking forward to seeing as many people as possible come along to enjoy the occasion, and support their local cricket club.

"Last year’s event was a sell-out, with no tickets available to buy on the gate, so we would urge people to secure their tickets now to avoid disappointment.

“It’s always great to see the club full of happy families on the night and, of course, we hope that many of them will continue to support us, by joining our teams or supporting our events, for years to come.”

The club is now looking for donations of tombola prizes and soft toys, either new or in good condition, to help raise additional cash on the night.

Martyn added: “We have a team of volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure events like this can take place and we couldn’t do this without them.

"If anyone would like to offer to help, whether setting up on the day, helping marshal the event or serving on a stall on the night, we would love to hear from you.”

Money raised from last year’s bonfire went towards the purchase of equipment for junior players, a tractor to carry out ground maintenance and the refurbishment of the changing rooms.

Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £3 for children, and are available here or from selected shops in Brandlesholme.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help or donate prizes should contact the club.
