Dozens of residents have vented traffic and parking concerns over plans to turn a house into a children's care home on their street.

The change-of-use application affects a property on Trimingham Drive in Bury.

The proposed site would house seven people, three members of staff and a maximum of four children aged 10 to 16.

The application has been made on behalf of Orchid Care Limited, which operates Lumb Valley Care Home in Rossendale.

There have been more than 40 objections to the application with complaints concerning road safety and a lack of car parking space aired.

One resident said: "Traffic congestion and parking will be a great concern as the property is situated at a T junction and parking is already an issue as cars park all around the junction of March Drive and Trimingham Drive.

"There are many occasions currently when cars park all around this junction causing local residents to find it unsafe to enter or leave the junction.

"Noise pollution will also be a major concern as this could be a 24/7 operation.

"This has always been a quiet residential area which could be changed drastically.

"The movement of traffic possibly day and night will be a major concern."

On choosing the site nearby primary schools, shops and travel and transport services have all been taken into consideration, according to the applicant.

But neighbours feel that with four members of staff at the site in peak times, a lack of space for parking and the house located on a T junction would be dangerous and obstructive.

After hearing concerns from those close to the property, Bury North MP James Daly, Cllr Jack Rydeheard and Conservative Party supporter Andrew Luxton, informed the rest of the estate, urging concerns to be submitted before November 1.

Cllr Rydeheard said: "A number of residents have highlighted their concerns to me over the planning application at Trimingham Drive. I had already been asking questions to the council about this.

“Once I became aware of the full details, I wrote to the residents of the estate to inform them of the application and to invite their comments on the matter. I will always stand up for Elton's residents, and will act on any concerns raised with me."
