Ramsbottom Rake hill climb was a huge success with hundreds lining the streets to cheer on brave competitors.

The annual event, organised by Lancashire Road Club, saw 71 riders take on the 875m steep course on Sunday, 16 October.

The riders set off from outside Ramsbottom Library on Carr Street and finish just before the Shoulder of Mutton pub on Chapel Lane.

Competitors came from local clubs like Bury Clarion and Chorley Cycling Club to places further afield like Reading Cycling Club and Fibrax Wrexham Road Club.

The winner was Kieran Wynne-Cattanach who rides for Team Lifting Gear Products who came in with a time of two minutes 26 seconds.

Reigning champion Tom Bell who won last year and who is the National Hill Climb Champion, came second this year, with a time of two minutes 27 seconds.

The first overall female rider was Rebecca Richardson, who rides for Team Brother UK, with a time of three minutes 16 seconds.

The second female rider was Bronwen Jenkinson, who rides for Energy Cycling Club, with a time of three minutes 32 seconds.

The third female rider was Alice Larkin, who rides for Glossop Kinder Velo Cycling Club, with a time of four minutes.

Event organiser Duncan Smith said: “The event went really really well.

“We had a different winner to what we expected, and we were really pleased for Kieran who won it because he’s been coming for six years now trying to win it.

“For him to beat the national hill climb champion was remarkable.

“Kieran actually won our junior competition a few years ago so he’s only young.”

The event brings lots of people to Ramsbottom and gives local traders a boost which is really positive for the town.
