An independent town centre cafe has shut its doors after ongoing financial pressures.
Bury’s Bake & Take at The Rock said it has closed its doors after a “good five-year run” due to financial pressures from Covid, the Ukraine war and inflation.
A spokesperson from the cafe said: “Unfortunately, the store is now closed.
“We had a good five-year run, however, we saw very little potential to continue as a viable business due to the changes faced over the last couple of years.
“This includes Covid, the increased prices of supplies because of the war in Ukraine, inflation, and the pressures that it had on budgets and overhead.
“As you know, we are just an independent local store in Bury.
"We did not have the negotiating power of larger chains and unfortunately, had no alternative to take a different route.”
The store has been a popular favourite in the centre with students from lcolleges often paying visits between their breaks.
Aoife Healy, 22, is an ex-pupil from Holy Cross College who remembers her visits to the cafe fondly.
She said: “It was always a really welcoming place and a great spot to hang out at on our breaks and after college.
“We would go to revise but more often than not, we would end up chatting and playing on the iPad’s they had in there!
“It’s always a shame when something like this happens, especially when you have so many good memories attached to the place.”
