Several people have been arrested as part of a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) operation to crack down on all types of crime.

Operation Avro is underway in Manchester with officers going to public places such as Victoria Station to make weapon searches and clamping down on traffic offences.

So far, the operation has seen the officers make nine arrests including on Bury New Road.

A GMP spokesman said: “This figure includes arrests for offences relating to disqualified drivers, drink drivers, drug drivers, and shoplifting.

"The operation continues.”

Operation AVRO sees officers attending areas of Greater Manchester including Bury and Bolton to ensure safety of the general public.

Officers were in Bury this afternoon and are currently working with traffic officers.

GMP Chief Superintendent Mark Dexter said this morning: “I will work very closely with Transport for Greater Manchester to try and keep our transport network safe.

“By the time you see this video, we will have many officers employed across the transport network in Greater Manchester and in particular around the transport interchanges.
