A keen-eyed member of the Bury Times Camera Club was able to snap a photo of the plane carrying Queen Elizebeth’s body back home to London yesterday, Tuesday.
Brian Peters, who lives in Tottington, took the photo from his back garden which shows the Royal Air Force plane, C-17 Globemaster, flying back to the capital city.
The aircraft was previously used last year to evacuate thousands of people fleeing the Taliban from Afghanistan.
It has now been used to fly Queen Elizabeth II's body from Edinburgh Airport down to RAF Northolt, London, ahead of the late monarch's funeral on Monday, September 19.
It is thought that inside the aircraft, her coffin was accompanied by a royal guard of honour and 96 gunners from the Queen’s Colour Squadron (the RAF’s dedicated ceremonial unit).
The plane was seen by Brian at around 6pm as he tracked the flight from take-off in Edinburgh.
After the plane landed, a hearse took the Queen’s coffin and Princess Anne to Buckingham Palace.
