BURY'S rich diversity was amply illustrated when the town's Mosses Centre staged a special event attended by approximately 150 adults and children.
They gathered to celebrate the Norouz which is the Iranian, Afghanistani and Tajikistani New Year.
They took part in a number of activities to mark the special occasion.
Atefeh Farkhad, a senior Bury Council social worker who set up the Iranian Education and Cultural Group in September 2006, said: "The Norouz is celebrated in Iran, Afghanistan and many central Asia countries.
"The event consisted of a children's play, dance and music and a couple of English musicians who played Iranian songs.
"We also celebrated the children's achievements over the last year."
The community group which Atefeh established promotes education and support and work towards valuing diversity and culture. It was launched with the help of Bury CVS and Bury Community Foundation.
The group receives money towards its achievements and New Year celebrations from Bury's Future Funds.
Atefeh went on: "The sessions are held weekly at the Mosses Centre in Bury on Saturdays between 11am and 1pm.
"There are currently 25 young people and more than 40 parents benefiting from this group."
