BURY'S popular Jinnah Centre was a hive of activity as a host of events were staged to mark International Women's Day.
And guest of honour at the Alfred Street venue was Bury's mayoress, Mrs Rubina Chaudhry, who was able to view many of the attractions and activities which took place.
Jinnah manager Imtiaz Hussain explained: "International Women's Day is a special day because it is a global message of progress, hope and appreciation of women's achievements"
The celebrations at the centre included henna painting, belly dancing, exercise sessions, environmental workshops and health checks.
And a number of visitors were able to have their eyes checked using sophisticated medical equipment which is used at Rochdale's Birch Hill Hospital.
Mr Hussain added: "I believe that women need empowerment through education, skills training and recognition of the positive roles they play in society.
"It was for this reason that we started to hold women-only sessions on Tuesdays to further encourage and support women to participate fully and equally in all spheres of life. I hope that our celebrations will make a difference to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding."
