An amateur operatic society in Bury is calling for theatre enthusiasts to join its new youth group.

All Saints (Elton) Amateur Operatic Society (A.O.S) is looking for young people aged six to 16 eager to get involved with performing arts.

Young people are encouraged to take part in all aspects of theatre, whether it be singing, dancing, acting, or stagecraft and even prop design.

Following the success of its summer workshop, the society is preparing to set up weekly sessions for young thespians and hope to put on junior showcases and productions in the future.

Volunteer Rebecca Foster, who is involved with the society's adult group said: “We don’t say it's just for people who want to do dancing or singing, it’s for everybody and anybody who wants to do anything within theatre.

“It builds confidence, and you learn so much from such a wide range of people, its good for them to get that experience.

“Even the quietest kids, when they get on stage, they just blossom.”

The society received funding from the council’s One Community fund which will help to pay for the equipment needed for productions.

All Saint's (Elton) Theatre Youth is led by industry trained and experienced tutors, who are fully DBS checked.

They include the group’s director Charlotte Crawley, and Olivia Kershaw who starred in the society’s production of My Fair Lady.

Rebecca said: “Some [young people] come back as adults and some go on to do professional work and its brilliant.

“It's really nice to give them the opportunity.”

Sessions will take place at All Saints House on Orrell Street, Bury, on Thursdays from September 15.

Sessions for children aged 6-10 run from 5-6pm and the 11-16 group meet at 6.15 to 7.15pm.

Anyone interested in getting involved should email Angela at allsaintseltonyouth@gmail.com for more information.
