Travellers returned to a playing field and park popular with families over the weekend - for the third time.

It is thought the camp was set up at St Mary's Park in Prestwich on Friday night.

It comes after councillors said they would improve security to prevent Travellers from stopping there.

The idea was to install CCTV and height barriers to prevent the caravans from getting on the field.

In July, travellers who had moved into the park were sent a notice by the council and forced to move on.

Police were also involved last time due to antisocial behaviour that was reported.

Many residents have complained about the park being used as a camp site.

Steve Tuner said: “Someone should go down, set up cameras to record all the activities and then play loud music and have a party in the park.

“Whilst also blocking the gate only allowing vehicles to leave and not enter.”

Julie Mundy said: “This is getting beyond a joke now. How many times have they got in the park now?”

A family driving past, who did not wish to be named, said: "We saw them while driving past and had stopped.

"It's honestly disgusting because it keeps happening and the council obviously need to do something about it."

The council have a 12-step process to follow to remove travellers, with the final step being enforced eviction.
