A generous semi-retired businessman, whose company starred in sixty-minute makeovers, has spent the last few months ‘giving back to Bury.'

Trevor Davies has been trying to showcase the beauty of Bury and has lent a hand replacing the famous flagpole on Holcombe Tower, Ramsbottom.

He has now succeed in turning it into a £6,000, self-funded, community project.

Trevor said: “My wife says I need to slow down but it is something nice to do and give back to the town.

“I want more people to visit Bury and the tourist centre and see the views and beauty we have to offer.”

Trevor came up with the idea of fitting two 360 live cameras on Holcombe Tower, Ramsbottom, which can be viewed from the tourist information office, Bury.

The idea came after offering to replace the flagpole on top of Holcombe Hill, from here, he came up with the innovative way of showcasing the views from the tower.

He said: “I was on a walk up Holcombe Hill and I saw the flag was not flying, I asked why and when I found out it was broken, I volunteered to replace it.

“The ladies at the tourist info wanted it done prior to the jubilee to fly the flag so I replace the old pole with a temporary pole and the flag flew.

“Since then, I have prepared the new flag and come up with the idea of fitting CCTV cameras which are now up and ready.”

His project involved a lot of hard work, tech, money and public liability insurance, but Trevor has been determined to get the job done.

He said: “The whole job has taken months of planning and hard work to get ready for the big day on Tuesday, August 30, when we plan to fit the flagpole, flag and install the large tv monitor and housing unit in tourist info.”

The CCTV can be viewed from the tourist information office on two 360 live cameras.
