Tram services between Bury and Whitefield remain suspended as planned maintenance work takes place on the line.

No Metrolink services have been running between the two stops since Saturday and will continue until Sunday August 19.

On Wednesday, August 17, work will commence between Queens Road and Bury with a bus replacement service in place.

Tram services will continue to operate every 12 minutes between Whitefield and Manchester Piccadilly.

Replacement bus services will operate every 12 minutes between Bury and Whitefield, and at the same interval between Crumpsall and Bury at peak times.

The works are part of a planned essential maintenance programme which will see approximately 4,400m of worn tram tracks being replaced between the Bury and Radcliffe tram stops, in addition to the renewal of parts of the overhead line tensioning system.

Metrolink service delivery manager at Transport for Greater Manchester, Victoria Mercer, said: “We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this closure of the Bury line will cause but will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption including running a like-for-like replacement bus service.

“The works will ensure that the Bury line continues to operate a safe and reliable service for years to come and we will take the opportunity during this service disruption to undertake additional works that will support future plans to operate additional trams on the Bury line.

“I’d encourage customers using the network to plan ahead and allow extra time when making their journey.”

Passengers will be able to visit an advice page to find information on alternative travel options to help plan their journey in advance.

Metrolink staff will also be around at key locations, at busier times to help passengers.
