Members of the public and exhibitors have been invited to join a 87-year-old tradition in Brandlesholme.

The Tottington and District Horticultural Show will be taking place on Saturday, September 10.

The society was initially created to promote an interest in horticulture and give mill and factory workers fresh air while teaching families how to grow fresh produce when money was tight.

Almost 87 years later, in a cost of living crisis with many working long day jobs, the society believes coming to the show and learning new skills can help as much now as back in 1935.

Dorothy Heaton, secretary for Tottington and District Horticultural Society, said: “It was formed in 1935 and we think it is very important to carry on with this tradition.

“We value the support we get from people who exhibit at and visit our Shows and it is so lovely to see the rooms full of flowers, cakes, jams, chutneys, paintings, crafts, eggs, wine, vegetables and fruit.

“That is why we would love it if people came with a few vegetables or a cake or craft.”

There will be exhibitions, food, raffles and classes for growing flowers, fruit and vegetables, as well as, crafts and baking.

A café will be serving drinks and homemade cakes with a raffle and tombola also being present for attendees to try their luck on.

The show will take place at Greenmount Old School, Brandlesholme Road, Bury, with the staging of exhibits at 8.30am to noon, opening up to the public at 2.15pm.
