"Woke-ravaged foul-mouthed clown" and "still crying over Meghan" are just the latest insults in the Twitter row between Bury South MP Christian Wakeford and Piers Morgan.

In a string of Tweets, Mr Wakeford has taken on Piers Morgan, as they both hurl insults over a Twitter thread.

The thread began following a Tweet from Piers Morgan stating "The England persons who menstruate football team are superb. Well played Lionesses."

Some commenters were quick to pick apart the Tweet adding "Not the time", "Making it about yourself?" and "Why can’t you just congratulate them normally?"

The Labour MP for Bury South picked up on these and responded in a re-tweet “Imagine being such a pathetic d***head that you can’t just enjoy things without using the opportunity to make it all about you.

“No-one is stopping you saying women, stop pretending to misunderstand gender inclusive language and creating a hostile environment for Trans people.”

Piers responded “Forgive me if I don’t take lectures on language usage from a woke-ravaged foul-mouthed clown MP who defected from the party he was elected to represent to a party he called ‘a bunch of c***s'. But many thanks for your thoughts.”

In response, Mr Wakeford said: “If being woke is looking out for those more vulnerable than myself, when used by the media as a punch bag then I wear the badge proudly.

"Sacked from The Mirror, sacked from CNN and still crying over Meghan at night. No wonder you’re getting about 10 viewers a night.”

The argument stemmed from Piers’ initial Tweet which some users, like Wakeford, have found disingenuous and disrespectful.

It comes after the women’s England team beat Spain 2-1 in the quarter finals last night, taking them into the semi-finals, which will take place on July 26.
