Thanks to a £9+ million investment in a brand-new Health and Digital Centre, jointly funded by Bury College, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Department for Education, students interested in university-level courses in healthcare and digital technologies at Bury College University Centre will benefit from a wider range of state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities during their studies.
Combined with relevant work placements, this will provide the opportunity to gain real-life work skills, and to enter into industry with the confidence and experience employers are looking for.
Students on the Healthcare Practice HNC, a year-long course aimed at giving students practical and theoretical experience in the health and social care sector, will benefit from a simulated hospital ward, where learning will be hands-on and industry-led. This will complement the practical skills gained on their industry placements, where students will have the opportunity to learn from qualified industry professionals, and build up career contacts.
The new centre will also provide opportunities for the next generation of computing professionals. Learning on the new Digital Technologies HNC will be supplemented by an immersive digital environment and flexible IT suites. This course has been designed with three vital employment routes in mind; Cyber Security and Cloud Networking; Software Development and Programming; Games and Animation.
Students considering a career in Nursing will also have access to the new facilities. The first year of Nursing BSc (Hons)*, developed in partnership with the University of Salford, will by taught by University staff on the Bury College campus. Local placements will be available in hospital and community settings within the NHS and independent sector. Second and third-year students will progress on to the University of Salford campus to continue their learning.
Bury College’s new Health and Digital Centre will also welcome 16- to 18-year-old Health and Digital learners, including those on Health, Digital, and Childcare T Level courses, and a brand-new esports course for students considering future careers in gaming, marketing, enterprise, IT and the creatives. Further facilities include a laboratory, simulated domestic home and an esports suite. The Centre is on schedule to open later this year.
