Two young men were found dealing drugs in Bury with one jailed and the other given a chance.
Manchester Crown Court heard a vehicle came to the attention of police in the town which was believed to be linked to the supply of illegal substances.
Officers approached and the vehicle, a Vauxhall Vetra, drove away.
A short time later it was abandoned and the occupants fled the scene on Rowans Street.
Two men, Kasim Mahmood, 20, and Daud Mohammed, 19, were caught a short distance away.
Hunter Gray, prosecuting, said: “Kasim Mahmood was found to be in possession of £130 in cash.
“Daud Mohammed had over £2,000 in cash.
“The Vauxhall Vectra was searched."
Mr Gray said there were 42 wraps of crack cocaine, with 51 per cent purity. There were 2.22 grams with a street value of £245.
There were 10 wraps of heroin, with a 52 per cent purity.
There were 6.614 grams with a street value of £80.
Both men denied possession of heroin and crack cocaine with the intention of supplying them during the incident in May 2020, but later changed their pleas to guilty ahead of a trial and appeared in court to be sentenced with families support them while they stood in the dock.
Rick Holland, defending Mahmood, said he was in danger of descending into a world of criminality.
Mark Shanks, defending Mohammed, said he found it difficult to withdraw from the activity but since the incident he has tried to improve himself.
He added there had been a significant delay in bringing the case to court and Mahmood would have been dealt with in a youth court had it been brought sooner.
Judge Patrick Field QC said: “These are serious offences because drug trafficking and drug dealing of class A drugs is particularly destructive.
“They destroy those who use them and they destroy communities, probably your communities.
“By becoming involved in all of this as you did, I suspect naively and without a full understand of the serious of the situation, you put yourself and others at risk.”
Judge Field said Mohammed was entitled to more credit as he was younger and had pleaded guilty sooner and said there was a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation” for him.
He jailed Mahmood for 27 months and suspended a sentence of 21 months for two years on Mohammed.
He ordered Mohammed to attend 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days and do 150 hours of unpaid work.
The pair exchanged a hug before Mahmood, from Clifton Street, Bury, was taken away and Mohammed, from Hibbert Street, Rushcliffe, Manchester, left the dock to be given a warning from the Judge to stay out of trouble.
