COMMUNITY groups across the borough showed their support for refugees last weekend alongside some iconic Bury landmarks.
Each group held a banner adorned with an orange heart, the symbol of the "Together with Refugees" coalition.
Those taking part included pupils at the Summerseat Methodist Primary School, members of the Bury Unitarian Church and staff at Summerseat Physiotherapy Clinic.
Groups stood alongside several Bury landmarks, including the Robert Peel Memorial, Peel Tower, and the Victoria Wood statue.
Bernard Emblem, secretary of Bury Fairtrade, which provided the banners, said: “We have joined Oxfam, Christian Aid and hundreds of other organisations in calling for a kinder, more considerate and more effective approach to supporting refugees in this country.
"The outpouring of support for refugees in the last few weeks has shown that’s what the public wants, and we hope that’s something our country can provide in these difficult times”.
The Together with Refugees Coalition was founded by several organisations, including charities British Red Cross and Freedom from Torture, aims to highlight the plight of refugees.
