Once again this year, maths students at Holy Cross achieved excellent results in the UK SMC. 37 students achieved a bronze certificate - placing them in the top 40% of candidates, 19 students achieved a silver certificate which means they were in the top 19% and 2 students - Andrew England and Rebekah Partington - achieved a gold certificate, meaning they were in the top 6% in the country.
Andrew was also given the prestigious honour of being invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad.
The challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and an ability to use basic maths techniques to solve non-standard problems. It is targeted at 16 to 18 year olds with a genuine interest in maths. This year, over 87,000 students took part nationally.
The college's results reflect the commitment, dedication and hard work of both students and staff.
