MOTORISTS are being urged to use an alternative routes as traffic builds throughout Bury, with roadworks bringing parts of the borough to a standstill.

Traffic is queuing on Bolton Road in Bury near to the Radcliffe border this morning.

Multi-way temporary traffic light signals are in operation for roadworks, causing severe congestion on the A58 Bury and Bolton Road.

The road is being used by an electric company facilitate EV charging infrastructure and a new petrol filling station.

Currently, work is underway on this road by Esp Electricity Limited.

Now Transport for Greater Manchester is urging drivers to consider using Ainsworth Road and to allow more time for journey.

There are queues both ways near the Shell Garage.

Congestion on that stretch of the road is set to continue throughout the day.

Roadworks are set to be completed at the end of this month.

There are also delays along A56 Manchester Road, Bury due to ongoing lane closures until 03/04/22.

And transport bosses are uring peoiple to use the Metrolink to get into Bury while the lane remains closed.

Unitied Utilites are carrying out work on this road and one.network has assigned a category of Mains Renewal to these works.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: "Delay along A58 Bury & Bolton Road, Bury, due to Multi-Way signals until 28/02/22.

"Consider using Ainsworth Road and allow more time for your journey today."
