A MAN has been arrested after a pedestrian died in a road traffic collision.

Police say a man in his 20s presented himself at Bury Police Station on Monday

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The arrest was in relation to a fatal collision in which a pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened at 5pm on Sunday on Edenfield Road, Rochdale.

The car ­— believed to be a grey Mercedes or Audi ­— failed to stop at the scene.

Emergency services attended and a woman - believed to be in her 60's - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Inspector Bob Cantrell, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Our thoughts remain firmly with the woman's loved ones at this difficult time.

"If anyone witnessed this collision and has any dashcam footage or information about the grey car please get in touch with police as soon as possible."

The collision was one of six fatal crashes over the weekend prompting police to put out a road safety message.
