AN amateur football club's pitches have been vandalised by "idiots on motorbikes".
Malc Tillson, the club secretary of Radcliffe Town Football Club, discovered the damage on Friday when he arrived at work at the King George V Playing Fields in Outwood Road.
He noticed the grass had all been churned up on the main pitch and the remaining three pitches were also damaged.
He said he believes the vandalism happened late on Thursday as the pitches were fine when he left the ground earlier in the day.
He said: “The vandalism is only on certain areas of the main pitch, where motorbike riders have made 'doughnuts' or have dug up the turf.
“We are going to have to do work on the pitch and we’re an amateur club.
“Volunteers and the club members put money into the club to get it to a decent standard and then we get idiots doing this.”
Malc said this is not the first time that vandals have churned up the grass on the pitches, with previous incidents including horse riders using the grass as a practice spot.
The football club, which plays in Division Five of the Lancashire Amateur League, recently put a planning application forward for fences to be put up around the pitches to stop the vandalism from happening. The club is currently waiting to hear back from the council.
