VETERANS ensured Radcliffe played its part in the weekend remembrance commemorations.
Members of the Bolton and District Parachute Regiment were behind a gathering at the memorial garden in the town's main square.
One of their oldest members, Johnny Maude, who served with the RAF in the Second World War, and later with 9 Para, laid a wreath with Susan Oldham, daughter of Wilf Oldham.
Wilf, an Arnhem veteran who was awarded an MBE for his services to building UK-Dutch relations, unveiled the plaque and lights there in 2016. But he was unwell and could not attend the ceremony.
The short service was led by Graham Moss and featured a rendition of Pie Jesu by Sarah Dennis.
Standard bearer Tom Beck lowered the PRA's flag as the Last Post was sounded by Stuart Speakman.
Ex-servicemen and the party then retired to Radcliffe Market for refreshments.
