A THUG attacked his former partner the day he was released from prison by throwing a speaker at her head.

Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester heard Sohail Ahmed had been in a relationship with the woman but had been ordered to keep away from her by a domestic violence protection order.

But he was twice jailed for breaching this order, and after being released the second time approached her home on Dumers Lane in Radcliffe while drunk in December, 2020.

He was spotted by neighbours and police were called to the scene.

Prosecutor Neil Fryman said: “One officer was so concerned that they started to kick in the front door to reach her.

“Officers also saw the defendant being very aggressive, picking up objects and throwing them at her. One was a speaker for a hi-fi system. Eventually she managed to throw some keys out.”

Mr Fryman added: “The speaker which had been thrown left a three centimetre laceration, and a lump on the back of her head.

Ahmed, 26, of no fixed address, admitted causing grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 30 months. A restraining order was also imposed.

Eugene Hickey, defending, said he had accepted the relationship was over.

He said: “There was an element of it being a recipe for disaster. He is still of no fixed abode, he was released from custody and had no obvious place to go to. He went to the one address he knew.”

He added: “This defendant was stabbed by her on one occasion, but he did not wish to press charges.”

Mr Hickey also said Ahmed claimed he did not mean to hit her with the speaker, but was reckless.

The court heard Ahmed had previously been jailed for conspiracy to supply heroin as well as breaches of the domestic violence protection order.

Passing sentence, Judge Tina Landale said: “The order was imposed to protect her from you. She has been the victim of domestic violence in the past from you. You could not care less about court orders or about her. She is terrified of you.”
