A CHARITY event is taking place in Stoneclough this weekend to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
Organisers David and Lisa De Souza, are asking residents to bring along empty two-litre plastic bottles, which will be cut up, painted and transformed into a poppy.
The fundraiser will take place on Saturday from noon until 2.30pm and the talented Kearsley Brass Band will open the proceedings.
David said: "The project's aim is to raise as much money as possible for the Royal British Legion, but to also educate the local children about the importance of Remembrance Day and why it’s important to carry the tradition on."
Those wishing to take part in the event should assemble on the grass verge next to The Grapes Hotel in Stoneclough. Paint, essential art tools and and a limited number of bottles will be provided for a £1 donation. The painted poppies will then be collected, left to dry, and will eventually form part of a poppy waterfall bridge.
The poppies will be suspended from Old Ringley Bridge in the run-up to Remembrance Day on November 11.
David and Lisa have asked families to take a photograph with their poppies and send it to them. Each image will be collated to create a unique picture of the bridge. Organisers have a JustGiving page - www.justgiving.com/fundraising/david-de-souza2
