YOUNG beekeepers are simply buzzing after their colony produced its first batch of 'Old Hall Honey'.
Old Hall Primary School has been a hive of activity since the Brandlesholme school took delivery of its new intake in October 2019.
The first honey harvest took place in autumn, with the school now offering four jars of 'Old Hall Honey' in a raffle to raise funds to maintain and grow the colony.
The school joined forces with Bee Involved community bee project based in Summerseat, and successfully bid for council funding to set up its own bee hive.
As well as creating a buzz around school, the children act as young beekeepers and youngsters throughout the school are learning how important bees are to the planet.
Children cared for the bees during lockdown and over the summer holidays with some expert help overseeing them.
Claire Hornsby from the school told The Bury Times: "We are really lucky to have a harvest in the first year — the pupils are so excited to be raffling off the first jars of honey.
"The jars are 100 per cent honey, no additives, so it will be lovely!"
"The money raised will go back into the beehive."
She added: "The first year is the hardest because everything is new, but the Bee Involved Project have been brilliant supporting us."
