A man arrested at Heathrow Airport has been charged with terrorism offences.
27-year-old British national Stefan Aristidou appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Friday, January 5) after he was charged a day earlier with seven counts of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Aristidou was arrested at Heathrow by officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command at Heathrow Airport around 6.10pm on Wednesday, February 3.
Police said he was detained under the 'Police and Criminal Evidence Act' and was taken into custody at a south London police station where he was subsequently charged as above.
The 27-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey via video link on February 19.
It remains unclear as to the nature of terrorist publications Aristidou was charged over.
The police have said that the fastest-growing terror threat in the UK comes from far-right extremism.
The Met's Assistant Commander Neil Basu said that the force had foiled a number of far-right plots to commit terrorism on UK soil since 2017.
