THE latest in a succession of fires has broken out at a Radcliffe recycling facility.
Firefighters battled through the night on Sunday, January 31, to control the blaze at Pioneer Mills on Milltown Street in Radcliffe.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), said: “At around 8.10pm on Sunday, January 31, four fire engines, an aerial appliance, and the air unit from Whitefield, Broughton, Farnworth, Atherton and Agecroft, and Bolton Central fire stations were called to reports of a fire at a recycling facility on Milltown Street, Radcliffe.
“The fire involved a large quantity of baled plastic approximately 20 square metres in size, and firefighters wearing respiratory masks worked hard throughout the evening to extinguish the fire using six jets, two hose reels, and a ground monitor."
Crews remained on the scene throughout Monday and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
In April 2019, fire crews were called to the site after a large pile of rubbish was set ablaze with the latest call out thought to be around the 12th time the fire service has turned out to the mill in the last few years.
