FIREFIGHTERS had to cut passengers out of a car following a crash in between Heywood and Bury last night which saw two people taken to hospital.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash at around 6.30pm in the Summit area of Heywood.
The crash caused major traffic disruption for commuters on the bus route between Bury and Heywood.
The North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and had to cut occupants out of the car
A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Bury New Road, Heywood, at 6.08pm on Wednesday, 6 January.
“One fire engine from Heywood quickly attended the scene. The collision involved two vehicles.
“One casualty was rescued from a vehicle by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment and transferred to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.
A spokesman for NWAS said: " We received reports of the RTC at 1800, with just one car involved. We attended the scene with one ambulance.
"We have taken two patients to hospital, one with a back injury and one just needing further assessment."
Traffic was diverted to Bury Old Road through Heap Bridge heading towards Bury.
