TESCO’S Bury branch has recently completed a string of initiatives in order to promote community spirit over the festive period.

The store has donated a collection of hampers to the mothers and babies at Ellen Court, an independence service that provides support and accommodation for young women who are pregnant or have a child.

Tesco Bury have also recently donated a series of packages to staff at care homes across the area, including Cameron House, Abbeydale Care Home, Epworth grange, Bury Hospice and Brookdale care home.

Tesco Bury community champion Wendy Howarth said: “It’s wonderful being able to support so many people across the community, especially at Christmas.

“We really wanted to bring a smile to as many people as possible, which is why we focussed our efforts on the likes of young mothers, care home staff, and local children.”

Each of the hampers from Tesco Bury included a selection of items, worth around £35, for both mum and baby to use and enjoy this Christmas.

Items in the hampers included clothes, toys, and nappies for the babies, and pampering products and chocolates for mothers.

Alongside the many hamper donations, Tesco Bury has also recently been working hard to support the UK’s first ever ‘Santaceptor’, a project set up by Brandlesholme Community Centre and Foodbank and Police Chase to help ‘save Christmas’.

With help from businesses across the community, including Bury Tesco, ‘Santa’ in his Santaceptor sleigh recently visited Bury North over a three-night period, much to the delight of local children.

Bury Tesco donated a number of selection boxes to the Santaceptor project, helping the volunteers to distribute 1400 selection boxes across the local community, as well as providing its car park as the launch event for the Santaceptor.

Ms Howarth said: “This year has been difficult for most, so we just wanted to show our support and let Bury residents know about our commitment to community.”
