PEOPLE have flocked to a Bury road this Christmas in search of something a little brighter than the Star of Bethlehem.
Janice Hallam and neighbour Jean Ann Hill have worked together to create the most festive display in Bury – with lights and decorations set up for passersby to enjoy.
The pair have been decorating their homes, on Birks Drive, Brandlesholme, together for the last 20 years, but after the coronavirus pandemic, and complications from an operation, they decided to up the ante this year.
Mrs Hallam said: "With this year being the way it is we thought we would go all out.
"I've been through the run of it and I've got 11 grandchildren so I thought why not.
"We've had cars upon cars going past, it's really nice to see, especially this year.
"More people have come by that we normally see and you can hear them saying 'this is brilliant' and 'it's amazing' – it really makes it all worthwhile."
The devoted grandmother has been offering childcare to her younger relatives so their parents can go to work, and they've really enjoyed the festive display.
Along with the outdoor decorations, both homes have transformed their front rooms.
After surgery earlier this year, complications saw Mrs Hallam face the fear of losing a leg, before spending a week in bed to start her long road to recovery.
The pair, helped by Mr Hallam, neighbours, and their families, are proud of their result, and hope to add to some new decorations next year.
