A NEW discount store will be opening a store at Mill Gate Shopping Centre on Friday, with 30 jobs to be created.
One Below will be replacing Poundstretcher, which closed its doors last month with more than a dozen jobs axed.
The discount store sells everything for £1 and under, and was created by the original founders of Poundworld Retail.
One Below has invested a six figure sum in the opening of the store and will create 30 local retail jobs for the town.
Denise King, who was manager of the Poundstretcher store, said that she and her team had been re-employed by One Below.
Christopher Edwards, managing director of One Below Retail Limited said: “We’re delighted to be opening a new store in Bury. We are the only store on the high street to sell over 5,000 items for £1 or even less.
“Now more than ever, when times are financially tighter for so many families, we are proud to be offering incredible savings on hundreds of shopping essentials and big brand items.
“It’s great to be able to breathe fresh new life in to the empty store”.
Poundstretcher shut its door for the final time on Saturday, November 21, with staff given just days of notice.
One Below now joins other discount retailers at Mill Gate, including Poundland and B&M.
The store will have a huge range of thousands of essential items across 10 departments including cleaning, groceries, home, pet care, health and beauty, baby care, toys and DIY.
A wide range of branded goods will be on offer at One Below, which has opened more than 60 stores in the UK since its launch 18 months ago.
The new brand is being independently financed and launched by Yorkshire father and son retail entrepreneurs, Christopher Edwards and Christopher Edwards Senior.
The successful businessmen were the original founders of former high street retailer, Poundworld Retail Limited before it was sold to American private equity conglomerate, TPG Capital in 2014.
