AN inquest has opened into the death of a Bury man who caught coronavirus in hospital.
Edward Green, 72, of Lakeside, died on April 27 at Royal Oldham Hospital.
Mr Green was a retired service manager for British Gas.
Police coroner's Officer, Bernadette Hatton, said his wife, Jean, identified her husband's body via Facetime.
At Rochdale Coroner's' Court, Ms Hatton said Mr Green was admitted to hospital after experiencing three days of abdominal pain and vomiting.
A CT scan revealed a small bowel obstruction and he underwent a labarotomy on April 6.
He was prescribed antibiotics due to an infection but developed an acute kidney injury.
Mr Green became short of breath, the hearing was told, but tested negative for Covid-19, until later tests showed changes consistent with the virus.
He was moved to the medical ward but his condition worsened and after discussions with his family treatment was withdrawn.
A provisional cause of death was given as Covid-19 pneumontitis.
Coroner Catherine McKenna formally opened and adjourned the inquest to take place at a later date.
