A crash has closed Wash Lane in both directions after police put up a cordon around a scene.
An eyewitness described "shoes in the road" with multiple emergency vehicles in attendance.
A person on a mobility scooter was involved in the crash and the North West Ambulance Service said that an ambulance had been sent to the scene.
They added that a male in his 60's had been taken to hospital with head injuries.
A heavy build-up of traffic has occurred due to the incident and traffic is using the A58 Rochdale Road as a result.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) tweeted to advise drivers to use an alternative route.
Rosso buses also tweeted to say that their services were delayed as a result of the incident and apologised for the inconvenience.
The TFGM tweet said: "Due to a police incident B6221 Wash Lane in Bury is closed in both directions from the junction of Willow Lane. As a result more traffic is using A58 Rochdale Road. Please use an alternative route."
Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
