Traffic was stopped on the M66 earlier today due to a police incident.
Traffic was stopped between junction 1 and junction 2 of the M66, causing queues near Manchester Road and Bury.
Greater Manchester Traffic Police and North West Motorway Police were both called to the incident.
GMP Bury North have since posted a notice on Twitter which reads: "Patrols have been negotiating with a female on the wrong side of a bridge - M66 between Jct 1 & 2.
"This female has now been removed from the bridge and is en-route to hospital for assessment. Thank you for your patience & thank you to @NWmwaypolice for their assistance #M66
Highways England earlier wrote: "#M66 southbound between #J1 and #J2 (#ManchesterRoad #Bury) is currently stopped due to a @NWmwaypolice @gmptraffic incident. #TrafficOfficers are enroute to assist. Please plan an alternative route if planning travel - further updates to follow when known... @OfficialTfGM"
North West Motorway Police advised people to avoid the area.
