A LANE was blocked on the M66 this morning following a crash on the southbound carriageway.

The crash occurred between Junction 3 for Pilsworth and Junction 4 at Simister Island, resulting in the third lane being closed.

The vehicles involved in the crash have now been moved to the hard shoulder and all lanes have been reopened.

However, commuters are continuing to experience delays, with traffic currently backing up to Junction 1.

Rosso‏, which run buses in Rossendale, Bury and Rochdale, said the incident is resulting in delays on their services.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: "All lanes have reopened on the M66, Delays currently back to junction 1, which should now begin to ease."
