A DISABLED man has been left terrified after racist vandals sprayed 'kill Muslims' on his front door.
Syed Ali, who lives alone and needs an electric wheelchair to help him get around, says he is now too scared to stay in his Bury home.
Mr Ali, who lives in Birks Drive in Brandlesholme, now needs medication to help him sleep after he was targeted in the early hours of the morning. Police are treating the incident as a hate crime and have launched an investigation.
The 48-year-old was woken at around 2.30am on Saturday when the phone connected to his intercom system started to ring. He answered the phone but no-one answered and he went back to sleep.
At around 3pm on Saturday he went out to go to the shops and went he got outside he noticed his door was black before a neighbour pointed out the graffiti. 'Kill Muslims' was written on his front door in marker pen as well as in paint.
Mr Ali, who lost his mobility after an operation in 2001, said: "For two days I could not sleep. The doctor gave me Diazepam. I am very upset and very frightened. There has also been people coming into my back garden and drinking."
The police were called and came to Mr Ali's home and took the details of what happened and wiped the door to remove the hateful language.
Two PCSOs then visited Mr Ali on Tuesday, and said they would be patrolling the area to try and reassure him and other people.
Mr Ali has lived in the house for more than six years and said that he has never had any trouble before and the neighbours are friendly.
The father-of-three said: "I do not think this is something kids would do. I do not know who would want to do this to me."
Greater Manchester Police urged anyone with information to get in touch.
A spokesman said: "Between 10pm on 16 March 2018 and about 3pm on 17 March 2018 an unknown offender has graffitied racist and threatening comments on the door of a home.
"Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to call police on 101 quoting incident number 1570 of 17 March 2018. Hate crime will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester.
"To make a report of a hate crime, call 101 or use the True Vision online reporting form www.report-it.org.uk."
